About

Sustainabli 🌱 is a startup focused on providing B2B solutions for labs to enhance sustainability and reduce energy waste through innovative technology.

During my time at Sustainabli, I was their sole product designer and led all aspects of design from defining the design system to launching new product initiatives. In addition to spearheading design efforts, I collaborated closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between design, engineering, and CEOs, resulting in streamlined processes and successful project delivery.

Company Goal

How might we design a more intuitive and engaging interface for research organizations to easily monitor and manage fume hoods?

At Sustainabli, we focused on a key question to shape our product vision for Sashimi: how could we best support research organizations in managing lab resources efficiently while minimizing energy waste? By centering the needs of these stakeholders, we designed an intuitive and engaging interface, enabling researchers to seamlessly monitor and control fume hoods with ease.

Streamline your lab's energy usage

Empower your research labs with intuitive monitoring and actionable insights, optimizing fume hood usage to enhance safety, sustainability, and overall performance.

Sashimi: Overview

Centralized digital dashboard

Enables users to control all fume hoods from one intuitive interface. Users can access from a centralized platform to monitor and adjust multiple hoods, streamlining lab operations and saving time.

Real-time status updates for all connected fume hoods, customizable alerts for unusual energy consumption patterns and data visualization for trend analysis and reporting.

Sashimi: People

Easily invite and add labs, streamlining the process of expanding Sashimi's usage within an institution.

Performance Tracking: By providing an overview of each lab's performance, including average sash height and overall efficiency grade, users can quickly identify top performers and areas needing improvement.

Sashimi: Fume Hoods

Ensuring safe and efficient lab environments

Offers users a quick overview of lab spaces, providing detailed room information on fume hood availability and quantity to enhance resource management and safety compliance across the research facility.

Quick Overview: Users can quickly see which rooms are fume hood-equipped and how many hoods are in each room, providing a comprehensive view of the lab's ventilation infrastructure.

Users can receive immediate notifications about unusual energy consumption patterns or potential inefficiencies in fume hood usage and provide tailored recommendations for improving energy efficiency.

Sashimi: Data Query

Unlocking energy insights with customizable data queries.

By allowing users to run comparisons between different labs or groups, this feature enables them to benchmark performance, identify best practices, track progress toward sustainability goals, and pinpoint areas for improvement.

Allow Skiff users to automatically forward their mail to other apps. Connecting users to external platforms.

An important feature is making sure the user can compare data across all labs. By facilitating these comparisons, users gain valuable insights that drive informed decision-making and encourage continuous improvement in energy management practices.

Sashimi: Shut the Sash

Community Building

By incorporating competitions into Sashimi, it allows users to engage in friendly challenges that promote energy-saving behaviors and track their progress in reducing energy waste.

With interactive graphs, users can more easily visualize and quantify their cost savings.

Reflection & Takeaways

01. Working with Sustainabli to develop innovative solutions such as Sashimi in a dynamic and evolving field alongside a dedicated and small team has taught me a lot about experimenting quickly, trade-offs and voicing my thoughts + questions.

02. Additionally, this experience has honed my ability to translate complex data into intuitive, actionable insights, bridging the gap between technical functionality and user-friendly design in specialized scientific environments.
